UCI researchers find a way to help older brains form memories

Dr. Marcelo Wood, UCI MIND faculty member and chair of neurobiology and behavior, and his team have discovered a way to help old and damaged brains form long-term memories by unlocking a repressed gene. Wood presented the findings at the American Association for the Advancement of Science conference earlier this month.  Next, Wood’s team plans to investigate how these findings apply to people with Alzheimer’s disease to formulate ideas for drug development.
